Hypnotherapy can help you Stop Gambling

They call it a gambling addiction and the place you are most likely to acquire one is on slot machines.  When I visited the seaside as a child, we would take a pile of pennies into the penny arcade on the pier and not leave until they were all gone (that is when there were 12 pennies to a shilling and each penny coin was larger than the current 50p coin).  One armed bandits had no lights or sounds other than the rolling of the tumblers.  If you wanted lights and sound, you had to turn to the pinball machines.

The Cost of a Gambling Addiction

Back then, if you wanted to gamble serious money you had to go to a casino. Other than in a casino it was difficult to lose vast amounts of money.  While at university I met George.  George could lose the equivalent of £50,000 pounds in a single night but the loss of his wife and home were his biggest losses.  Fortunately, when I met George, he was a reformed man who had won back his wife (sorry about the pun) and had a new home.  The only time he now handled cards was to do card tricks and, I think it fair to say, that I have never seen anyone work those cards the way he did.

Now it is So Much Easier

How times have changed.  You can still lose your shirt in a casino but now you can do it without leaving your own home by playing online.  Slot machines have become so scientifically designed to engage us, draw us in and trap us that it is no wonder that these form the most frequent basis for a gambling addiction.

You may not be losing as much as George but any amount, if you cannot afford it, is too much.

The Way to Beat It

If you want to beat your gambling addiction you have to learn to do certain things differently.  Gambling satisfies a need – if you do not satisfy that need in a more positive way, then the need for the gambling will not subside.

Hypnotherapy Can Help

Hypnotherapy can help in many ways – from helping you disconnect that feeling of euphoria from the lights and sounds of the slot machine to helping you find more positive ways to address the emotional need and formulate a powerful image of yourself as a non-gambler.
