Needle or Injection Phobia Managed

Ellie Learns to Manage Her Needle Phobia

When Ellie was 14 she had to give blood. The nurse had done her best but that is when Ellie’s needle phobia began. From then on injections or hypodermic needles would cause Ellie to panic.

Ellie suffered for 10 years but it was not until she set her wedding day that she decided that the needle phobia had to go: if she was to have a honeymoon, Ellie was going to have to have inoculations and that meant injections!

Ellie’s Experience - in Her Own Words

“Hi Stephen,

“How are you? Hope things are going well. It’s been a year since I saw you last, I think a year any how and I wanted to let you know how I was getting on.

“The first test I had with needles was about 10 months ago when I had to have my vaccines to go on my honeymoon, and it was the first time I didn’t hyperventilate and cry when I was having them done. I was still nervous but I coped.

“Since then, I have had a few blood tests! Yes blood tests, and at first I would still get very clammy and worried about them but I remembered what you said and kept telling myself that I was in control and remembering the techniques you taught me. In January my husband and I discovered we were having a baby so you can imagine I’m having to have a few blood tests now.

“The first one was not too good, I still cried but I was ok, the second one was awful, the midwife kept moving the needle about but I was thinking of other things and today I went for another and I didn’t think about it at all before hand, and it was fine, hardly hurt, I was quite relaxed and feel that soon Ill be able to go and have them on my own without anyone holding my hand. Don’t think ill ever be able to watch it though :o)

“So you see, things are a lot lot better, as I would never go and have any injections or blood tests before, so I just wanted to let you know how I was getting on and to say thank you.

“My goal is to eventually give blood at a donor centre but that won’t be for a few years as I can’t for a year are the baby is born or breast feeding.

“Many Thanks again and I hope you are doing well.

“Kind Regards
