Sam Overcomes Her Fear of Being Sick

If you ever met Sam socially you would probably be surprised to discover her occupation. Sam works for our emergency services where any kind of weakness could prove disastrous for ones own safety – and the safety of others. Unfortunately, Sam had such a weakness – she had a phobia, she had emetophobia.

Sam’s History

Sam had suffered with a fear of being sick or of vomit for years but had been able to manage it. Then an incident on holiday pushed her fear to full on emetophobia. Sam became frightened of any place where someone may be ill: fairgrounds, airplanes, particularly pubs. Sam did not drink any more and could not go near people who had been drinking. Her emetophobia also influenced her eating; making her cautious of what and when she ate. Sam now avoided fatty foods or eating late in the evening. She often found herself lacking the energy her job required. Sam’s fear even extended to not being able to enter areas from which escape would be difficult. This meant that places like shopping centres were out of bounds.

Sam’s work required that she be able to address any situation in any place - including drunks in shopping centres!

Sam required just two sessions of hypnotherapy to address her emetophobia.

Sam’s Comment on Her First Session

At the end of the first session of hypnotherapy she announced,

"All I want to do now is go down the shopping centre with my aunt!”

Sam’s Comment on her Second Session

At the start of the second hypnotherapy session she confirmed her shopping trip and as part of her progress report declared,

"And I went out last Saturday night and got drunk – and I had chips on the way home!”

Sam’s Six Week Progress Report

Six weeks after her second hypnotherapy appointment Sam wrote.

“Yes things have been fine since my last visit, friends and family have noticed a huge change in me and I’m able to do things with a lot more confidence now.

“I just don’t seem to worry anymore and I’ve even booked to go on holiday in June and I didn’t think I would ever be able to get on a plane again! “
