What Are Fattening Foods?

Eat fattening foods and you will get fat. That is the general consensus of opinion. So if one wants to lose weight one must eat non-fattening foods.

What Makes Food Fattening?

Is it low Calories or low fat that makes a food non-fattening? We are told by the advertisers that there is some merit in eating food that is low in fat but many foods achieve the low fat status at the expense of increased sugar content and therefore increased Calories. If food is low in fat but high in Calories are they fattening or non-fattening?

Does a Healthy Diet contain Fattening Foods?

We are encouraged to have a “healthy” diet. One might conclude that it is “unhealthy” foods that are fattening foods? Unfortunately, we have the same problem with defining “unhealthy” food.

Everyone Knows What Food is Healthy!

“Healthy” food is fresh food, non-processed food. If we took fresh vegetables, mushrooms and chicken, fish or tofu, added a few herbs, boiled them up in a stock to make a soup or stew and served it with plain boiled rice we would have a “healthy” meal. This meal would be low in Calories and low in fat - “non-fattening”. Surely, if one ate food like this one would be bound to lose weight.

Eat Like a Sumo – Get Fat Like a Sumo

In Japanese the dish that has been described is called chanko-nabe. This is the main component of the diet of the Japanese Sumo wrestler! They get fat because they eat it to excess!

It is How Much You Eat That Makes You Fat

It is not possible to avoid fattening foods because all food is fattening when eaten to excess. The issue is not understanding what are fattening foods but understanding when your body has sufficient. This is discussed further in Chocolate Doesn’t Make You Fat!

Understanding when one has eaten sufficient is not a question of dieting because dieting makes you fat. It requires that you get back in touch with your natural weight control mechanism.

Have Your Cake and Eat It!

If you are in contact with your natural weight control mechanism eating "fattening foods" like cake will have a natural consequence of causing less to be eaten.
